Quick answers about what tion.es is, where the words come from and how to use it in class.

What is tion.es?

A free reference and teaching site about English word endings. It has word lists by ending and by length, spelling guides with short practice quizzes, and a worksheet maker that turns the words you choose into a printable sheet with an answer key.

Who is tion.es for?

Primary teachers planning spelling lessons (UK Key Stage 2, US grades 3 to 5), parents helping with spelling at home, and word-game players or older students who want lists by length.

Is tion.es free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and no account is needed. There are no ads, paid tiers or sign-ups. Lists, guides and worksheets are free for classroom use.

Is tion.es a Spanish website?

No. The site is in English and is about English spelling. The address reads as the ending -tion; .es is only the domain ending.

Where do the words and meanings come from?

The classroom lists are chosen by hand. Meanings and example sentences are written for this site and checked against Merriam-Webster, and syllable counts were checked against CMUdict. The letter-ending lists are drawn from the ENABLE2K word list. Read more on sources and editorial notes.

How do I make a spelling worksheet?

Open the worksheet maker, choose an ending and the words you want, then pick activities: build the word, choose the ending, sort, match meanings or complete sentences. Print the sheet; an answer key is included.

Can I print the word lists and quizzes?

Yes. Word lists, practice quizzes and worksheets have print layouts, so you get a clean page without the site menus. Use the print button on the page or your browser’s Print command.

Which curriculum do the spelling guides follow?

The rules are summarised from the Department for Education’s English spelling appendix for England, mainly Years 3 and 4. The guides support spelling practice; they are not a certified curriculum product.

Why does the site say “-tion” when the suffix is “-ion”?

“-tion” and similar labels are convenient names for the endings children hear and write. England’s curriculum appendix identifies the underlying suffixes as -ion and -ian. The -tion or -sion guide explains how the root word helps you choose.

Does tion.es use cookies or track visitors?

No. There are no analytics, advertising or cookies, and the filters, quizzes and print buttons run in your browser. The host keeps short-lived technical logs; see the privacy notice.

How do I report a mistake or suggest a word?

Email hello@tion.es with the page address and the word or sentence. Every report is checked against a dictionary. See contact and corrections.
